Councilmembers serve a legislative role governing the Borough. They are responsible for passing local laws (ordinances), creating policies, setting the annual budget, determining property tax rates, and overseeing essential community services like public safety, public works, and planning/zoning.

With nearly 10 miles of roadway, the Borough is tasked with not only filling potholes, paving, and making sure stormwater flows properly away from roadways, it’s also responsible for traffic safety. This includes the installation and maintenance of pavement markings and road signage–such as all 106 stop signs throughout the Borough.

In addition to enhancing operational efficiency, a well managed municipal records program provides maximum transparency & accountability–a focus of the current Council. “This is really about providing good governance where it had previously been lacking in our local government,” Council President Farkas says. “Sure, this is a lot of tedious administrative work on our part, but citizens deserve nothing less.”

This paid municipal officer position will assist the Borough Secretary-Treasurer with limited financial duties, such as monitoring and reconciling bank accounts, reviewing municipal fund activity, and inspecting financial reports for completeness and accuracy.
