Centennial Committee: The ad hoc Centannial Committee was created in 2022 to organize the Borough’s Centennial celebration. The Centennial Committee now stands adjourned.

Fire Service Review Committee: The ad hoc Fire Service Review Committee (FSRC) was created February 2024 by a unanimous vote of Council. Its mission was to analyze and evaluate West Mayfield’s current fire service within the context of the borough’s fire prevention and fire protection program, and to report its findings of fact and evidence-based recommendations to council. The FSRC delivered its Final Report to Council and Citizens in September 2024 and now stands adjourned.

About Boards

The following boards are required/permitted by the Borough Code or local ordinance, as cited.   

Zoning Hearing Board: Council shall appoint a Zoning Hearing Board, which Board shall adopt rules to govern its procedures. The Board shall hold meetings, keep minutes, and, pursuant to notice, shall conduct hearings, compel the attendance of witnesses, take testimony under oath, and render decisions in writing, all as required by law. A fee shall be charged in accordance with a schedule affixed by Council for any appeal or proceeding filed with the Zoning Hearing Board. The Zoning Hearing Board shall have the functions, powers, and obligations specifically granted by law (Ord. 09-01-95).


Vacancy Board: If the council of any borough refuses, fails, neglects or is unable, for any reason whatsoever, to fill any vacancy within 30 days after the vacancy happens, as provided in this section, the vacancy shall be filled within 15 additional days by the vacancy board. The vacancy board shall consist of the council, exclusive of the mayor, and one registered elector of the borough who shall be appointed by the council at the council’s first meeting each calendar year or as soon as practical and who shall act as chair of the vacancy board. The vacancy board shall appoint a registered elector of the borough, or ward in the case of a ward office, to hold the office, if the term continues that long, until the first Monday in January after the first municipal election occurring more than 60 days after the vacancy occurs, at which election an eligible individual shall be elected to the office for the remainder of the term. Recreation Board: A Recreation Board is hereby established to supervise and maintain recreation places within the Borough in accordance with the provisions of the Borough Code. Ordinance Chapter 250.01 (Ord. 150, Passed 3-12-60.)
